Are Your Tires Ready For Summer? | Home-Family-Parenting Blog

As many of our customers prepare for summer travel, we want to remind them to get all their tires checked. In most cases, an auto service provider automatically checks the pressure in car tires, when you get an oil change. But often the spare tire pressure is unchecked, unless you specifically request to have it checked.

Spare tires are often kept in the trunk of the car, under the vehicle or even on the back of the vehicle. No one really thinks of checking or maintaining their spare tire because it is usually out of sight. We want our customers to keep in mind that tires are porous and can lose air through the material. This is how a spare tire, even though it?s not in use, can lose air pressure over time.

Normally, the only time a spare tire is used is when you have to put in the car. But if this preventive maintenance of the spare tire is neglected, the results could be more trouble than expected.

Imagine you are out driving, and you get a flat tire. While this in inconvenient, many people will not worry too much, because they will replace the flat tire with the spare tire and use the spare tire to get to a tire service shop for assistance. But what happens when the spare tire has not been checked and its air pressure is low or it is flat?

If your vehicle?s spare tire is looking low on pressure, do not go ahead and put it on the car. A spare tire with low air pressure will not get you far. If you choose to drive on a spare tire with low air pressure, it is a possibility that the excessive heat build up and the stress on the sidewalls of the spare tire could result in blow out. The last thing anyone needs is to get two flat tires on the same day.
