News Of The World News of the Day

News Of The World News of the Day: A report published in today?s Daily Mirror alleges that News of the World journalists sought to pay an NYPD officer for access to the phone records of 9/11 victims.

An anonymous source who spoke with the Mirror claims the reporters wanted both phone numbers of those who perished in the attacks, and information on calls made by victims in the days before the terrorist attacks.

?His presumption was that they wanted the information so they could hack into the relevant voicemails, just like it has been shown they have done in the UK,? the source said. ?The [now-former officer] said he had to turn the job down. He knew how insensitive such research would be, and how bad it would look.?

Meanwhile, a lawyer representing the family of murdered British teenager and NotW phone hacking victim Milly Dowler says the girl?s parents are still waiting on an apology from Rupert Murdoch and think News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks should ?do the honorable thing? and resign.

In related news, yet another News Corp subsidiary ? The Sunday Times ? is being mentioned in connection with an investigation into the personal information swiping of Gordon Brown.
